Product Review: RockTape

A runner and kinesiology tape go together like peanut butter and jelly…

…like Batman and Robin

…like Thanksgiving dinner and a nap

…like Jim and a Guinness.

There are many benefits to using kinesiology tape, and while I’m not a doctor or athletic trainer by any means, I do encourage you to try it if you aren’t already sold on it’s greatness.I was first introduced to RockTape when my sports therapy doctor taped me up for a “test run” (I won’t mention what he said about the “other kinesiology tape”). I had been dealing with intense IT band pain for months. After two painful deep tissue treatments and the one professional RockTape taping, I was ready to give running another cautious and oh-so-needed try.

Things I like about RockTape:

  1. It comes in pretty colors (c’mon, sometimes it’s important).
  2. The adhesive is strong. If applied correctly, it’ll last a few days at least (it’s seriously stronger than the “other tape”). There is also a waterproof version.
  3. It’s a pain reliever. It works to alleviate the tender spots (for more info on how it works, click here).
  4. There are inspirational (and sometimes humorous) quotes printed on the back of the tape. I see this as a demonstration that the company is willing to go above and beyond for their client base.

Since my initial introduction, I’ve taped my IT band for every run. And the RockTape Rock Sauce topical pain reliever is absolutely amazing post-run. I’m totally sold. It smells fantastic and my quads scream out in joy when I massage it in to the painfully tight muscles.

As a company, RockTape is actively engaged on Twitter and has a wide array of instructional videos on their website.

If you’re dealing with muscle pain or fatigue…if you’re a runner setting your sights on your first marathon…or if you’re like me, determined to conquer a dumb IT band injury once and for all, I encourage you to check out what RockTape can offer.

Do you use kinesology tape? What injury are you taping up? How has the tape improved your days as an athlete?

Thank you, Kelly! Just placed my first order for some hot pink RockTape and RockSauce. At this point, I’m praying anything will help with my knee/IT band pain. I’ll let you know when my order comes in. :)

That’s cool.. I’m pretty familiar with different brands of kinesio tape and use it frequently on my athletes. I’ve never used rocktape though, and would be interested to hear what he said about the “other” brands. In terms of adhesive – we almost always use “tuf-skin” before putting on the KT. It helps last a lot longer and keeps the corners from peeling up!

I’ve not used “tuf-skin” but have never been happy with the hold of KT tape. Having used both KT and Rocktape in the last six months, I felt stronger and more secure using the latter.
