Pieces Of Me

As I roll out my legs and back, I close my eyes. For just a few moments, I shut the world off and think only of me.

I don’t think of me as you might think of me. Instead, I see myself as multiple parts: muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, joints…Together they build me, but on my yoga mat, I concentrate only on the parts of the whole.

Reaching to the ground, I stretch my hamstrings. I pull myself down, wishing I could sink past the floor. I feel loose and malleable.

The foam roller isolates my focus to the areas that need me most. The knots are unmistakable, and as I put pressure on them, seeking a reprieve, I inhale and exhale deeply.

I massage my calves and then pull my knees to my chest in order to loosen up my hips. I smile, remembering the miles that caused the rigidness.

I work on the pieces of me with resolve and clearly recognize the healthy whole I am creating.
